A Beginning

When writing, your first sentence, and your first 100 words, should draw the reader in and hook them. I have already failed at this, because that sentence you just read is an overused cliche that isn’t really interesting to readers despite its undeniable validity to the writing process. Despite this questionable choice, I’m going to keep writing on the assumption that anyone who actually reads this blog post will fall into one of four categories:

  1. You’re my mom (Hi Mom. I love you too)
  2. You’re a family member or friend who feels obligated to check out whatever I’ve decided to post on the Internet
  3. You’re a family member or friend who is genuinely interested in whatever I’ve decided to post on the Internet
  4. You’re a complete rando who somehow stumbled onto my first blog post and thought, “This might be interesting,” complete with noncommittal facial expression and shrug

This blog is intended to be a place where I post writing, or whatever other vague creative endeavors I come up with. The writing may be interesting, or it could make you yawn and switch over to YouTube. It is unlikely that any writing on here will be polished to the point that you can see your reflection in it, but maybe I’ll be able to attain a dull, burnished glow on special occasions.

I’m starting this because I recently graduated and apparently don’t have enough to do between working, maintaining an apartment and a marriage, and searching for an actual big-girl job. I can go for long periods where I’m distracted by other things and don’t write at all, but I think I’m committed enough to writing at this point that I want to try and make it a semi-consistent activity. The act of putting it out on the Internet for the world (probably just my family and friends) to judge is intended to create accountability. I love to write. I want to write. Maybe this will just give me the impetus I need to write more consistently.
